How to Fix Image Upload Issue in WordPress (Step by Step)

Can’t upload images to your WordPress site? Image upload errors can be very confusing to most beginners because they can appear without you needing to do anything else.

Error uploading images is one of the most common image issues in WordPress. Fortunately, it’s easy to fix and you can do it yourself.

Here’s how you can easily fix the WordPress image upload problem. Additionally, we will explain what causes this issue, and how you can avoid it in the future.

Problems uploading images in WordPress are often caused by incorrect file permissions. Your WordPress files are stored on your web hosting server and require specific file and directory permissions to function.

Due to incorrect file permissions on the hosting server, WordPress cannot access files and upload them. You may receive the following error when uploading an image file: Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2022/14. Has the server permission to write to the directory’s parent?

It is also possible that your images do not appear in the media library as a result of this issue. To resolve the image upload issue, you should change the file permissions.

Connect to your website through FTP to update the file permissions. Go to the /wp-content/ directory. You’ll find the uploads folder inside, which contains all of your media uploads, including photographs. Select File permissions from the right-click menu on the uploads folder, as shown below.
